The Leaflet eNewsletter June 2020

Dear Friend,

Thank you for your ongoing efforts to stay home and distanced as we continue to navigate through the COVID-19 emergency. The conservatory and park amenities remain closed at this time, with the exception of the off-leash dog park which reopened on May 19, 2020. We are thankful for the City staff’s continued work to ensure Allan Gardens is looked after. While we miss you and we miss being at Allan Gardens, we have been finding solace in our virtual connections with you and the Allan Gardens community.

We are pleased to let you know that FOAG volunteers have been able to start planting in Edible Allan Gardens (our community gardening space south of the Children’s Conservatory). At the end of April, the province re-opened community gardens and declared them an “essential source of fresh food”. Work in Edible Allan Gardens is limited to a small group of volunteers at this time and physical distancing and handwashing practices are in place. Food from the garden will be donated to our friends at Building Roots in support of their “Growing Meals Together” initiative in Moss Park.

We have been receiving great feedback about our online “Growing Up Green at Home” series which aims to bring Allan Gardens to you by showcasing kid-friendly nature and garden activities. New episodes will continue to be posted every Monday this month at 11 a.m. Tune in if you haven’t already!

We’re excited to offer three new webinars in June that will appeal to at-home gardeners and plant enthusiasts. Read on for dates and please mark your calendars. We’re also working on developing a virtual tree tour to be released later this summer!

Stay tuned for our eNewsletters, and check out our updates on social media. You can reliably find us sharing news, virtual programming and photos on FacebookInstagram and Twitter.

As ever, we look forward to the day when we can meet again at the Gardens. In the meantime, stay home and stay safe.

Be well,

Friends of Allan Gardens Board of Directors
