In celebration of Urban Agriculture Week, the Friends of Allan Gardens is hosting an open house event in “Edible Allan Gardens”. Our volunteer-run community vegetable garden provides volunteers with a space to grow vegetables and to learn about growing food at home. All of the garden’s harvest is donated to local not-for-profits. On Sunday September 11th between 11am and 1pm, we’ll open up Edible Allan Gardens to the public for touring the gardens and getting tips on growing food at home.
What to Expect:
During our open house, visitors will be able to tour the vegetable gardens on their own and read the signage in the garden beds. Volunteers will be stationed throughout the garden to discuss key urban gardening topics, including:
the purpose of Edible Allan Gardens,
when to harvest vegetables,
composting,
using native perennials, and
succession planting.
All are welcome! Meet in Edible Allan Gardens – located through the gates, south of the Children’s Conservatory, north of the playground on the west side of the park.
